I began primarily as a painter and moved to photography. I cannot help but apply what I learned in painting to my final images. In my portrait work, I often find that capturing a candid expression during a shoot that is not the intention of the subject can often result in a powerful image. I bring out an aspect of the person that is normally missed and is only caught in a blink of an eye. I use Photoshop, which I have been using for twenty-five years, to restore to the image what the camera takes out. I enhance the finer qualities of a person and reduce the less important. I never release images straight out of the camera and often feel that the shoot is only the very beginning of the work. What I seek through this approach is a resonance of ideas in which the original thoughts become less important than their translation into the work.
